Tim Brosnan

Non-executive Chairman at Abbey Capital

Tim Brosnan is Non-Executive Chairman of Abbey Capital Limited.

Tim Brosnan worked 15 years from 1970 in Ireland’s Department of Finance and its development bank, ICC Bank, where he setup and managed the treasury division. He then setup and managed an Irish-based investment banking business for Citicorp (now Citi). In 1987, he founded Gandon Securities Ltd in Ireland which engaged in proprietary trading in international financial markets, corporate interest rate risk management, international structured finance and futures funds management. In 1996, he was involved as investor and advisor in CyBerCorp, a startup software and on-line brokerage business based in the US. Both Gandon and CyBerCorp were subsequently acquired by large companies.

In 2000, he co-founded Abbey Capital Limited and is its non-executive Chair. He is CEO and CIO of Cavendish Capital Ltd, the holding company for Abbey Capital and a trader in international futures markets.

In 2007, he founded Small Foundation, an Irish-registered charity whose mission is to catalyse income-generating opportunities for extremely poor people in rural sub-Saharan Africa. He was its executive chairman up to February 2018 and remains a director.

Tim has a Bachelors Degree in Commerce from University College Dublin, Ireland, a Bachelors Degree in Science from Open University, UK and a Masters Degree in Science in Development Management from Open University, UK.



Tony Gannon

Founder and Chief Investment Officer at Abbey Capital

Prior to founding Abbey Capital, Tony was a co-founder of Allied Irish Capital Management (AICM), a Dublin-based CTA, in conjunction with Allied Irish Banks.

He helped to grow AICM to become one of the largest European CTAs, with funds under management growing from an initial $50 million to in excess of $1.4 billion.

Tony has more than 25 years’ investment experience in the managed futures industry. He is recognized and acknowledged as a leader in the industry globally. He is a regular guest speaker at alternative investment industry conferences.

Tony graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Masters in Business Studies with Finance from University College Dublin, Ireland.

Mick Swift

Chief Executive Officer at Abbey Capital

Mick Swift is Chief Executive Officer of Abbey Capital.

Mick is responsible for delivering on the strategic goals of the company, oversees the operations on a day to day basis and is a member of the Investment Committee. He is a Director of Abbey Capital and its holding company Cavendish Capital.

Mick was promoted to CEO in December 2019 after holding the role of Deputy CEO and Director of Research since 2012. He joined the company in 2002.

Prior to joining Abbey Capital, Mick was a Director at Allied Irish Capital Management (AICM) in Dublin from 1998 to 2002. While at AICM, he worked in a trading capacity as well as on product research and risk management. Previously, Mick was Head of FX and European Interest Rate Trading at Bank of Ireland Global Markets in Dublin from 1997 to 1998. From 1994 to 1997 Mick was Treasurer and EVP at Bank of Ireland’s New York Branch, where he ran the trading and sales operation. In 1992, he became Head of Irish Interest Rate Trading at the bank after time spent trading forward foreign exchange. Mick joined the Treasury Division of Bank of Ireland in 1984.

Mick graduated with a B Comm degree from NUIG Galway in 1983 and holds an ACMA qualification.

Claire Gately

Non-executive Director at Abbey Capital

Claire joined Abbey Capital in June 2000, shortly after its formation.  Her initial role involved managing Compliance, Legal, Finance and Back-office. In July 2002, she was appointed to the Board of Directors and held the position of Compliance Director until January 2010.

Claire has over 25 years’ experience in financial services, 8 in banking and 18 in managed futures, with the latter focused on regulation and fund structuring. Claire began her career with IIB Bank, gaining legal and credit experience.  Claire then moved to Bank of Ireland (Corporate Banking, Dublin) as a lending executive, specializing in corporate and project finance deals. She returned to KBC Finance Ireland as a Project Finance Manager (where she specialized in Telecom Finance syndicated deals).

Claire graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) with a Bachelors degree in Commerce and a Masters degree in Finance. Since joining Abbey Capital she has completed the Series 3 exam and is a registered Principal of Abbey Capital.

David McCarthy

Non-executive Director at Abbey Capital

David McCarthy is a non-Executive Director of Abbey Capital Limited, the Dublin-based alternative investment specialist.

David is a prominent figure in the alternative investment business with a distinguished track record of investment management since 1977. David has extensive experience in the managed futures industry and is a respected educator and commentator on the industry.

David is Principal of D.F. McCarthy LLC, an advisory firm based in the U.S. In 2002 David co-founded Martello Investment Management L.P. From 1994 to 2000, David was an Investment Manager for Global Asset Management (GAM) where he managed GAM’s trading funds of funds. He has served in various investment and management roles with Atlantic Philanthropies, Rayner and Stonington, Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. and McKinsey & Co.

David has taught finance and investments at Skidmore College and the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) in the U.S., and University College Dublin in Ireland, and he currently holds an adjunct faculty position at University College Cork. He is the author of a number of academic articles on managed futures.

David holds a Ph.D. from University College Dublin, an MBA from Stanford University, and a BA from the University of New Hampshire.
