Founder and Chief Investment Officer at Abbey Capital
Prior to founding Abbey Capital, Tony was a co-founder of Allied Irish Capital Management (AICM), a Dublin-based CTA, in conjunction with Allied Irish Banks.
He helped to grow AICM to become one of the largest European CTAs, with funds under management growing from an initial $50 million to in excess of $1.4 billion.
Tony has more than 25 years’ investment experience in the managed futures industry. He is recognized and acknowledged as a leader in the industry globally. He is a regular guest speaker at alternative investment industry conferences.
Tony graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Masters in Business Studies with Finance from University College Dublin, Ireland.
Chief Executive Officer at Abbey Capital
Mick Swift is Chief Executive Officer of Abbey Capital.
Mick is responsible for delivering on the strategic goals of the company, oversees the operations on a day to day basis and is a member of the Investment Committee. He is a Director of Abbey Capital and its holding company Cavendish Capital.
Mick was promoted to CEO in December 2019 after holding the role of Deputy CEO and Director of Research since 2012. He joined the company in 2002.
Prior to joining Abbey Capital, Mick was a Director at Allied Irish Capital Management (AICM) in Dublin from 1998 to 2002. While at AICM, he worked in a trading capacity as well as on product research and risk management. Previously, Mick was Head of FX and European Interest Rate Trading at Bank of Ireland Global Markets in Dublin from 1997 to 1998. From 1994 to 1997 Mick was Treasurer and EVP at Bank of Ireland’s New York Branch, where he ran the trading and sales operation. In 1992, he became Head of Irish Interest Rate Trading at the bank after time spent trading forward foreign exchange. Mick joined the Treasury Division of Bank of Ireland in 1984.
Mick graduated with a B Comm degree from NUIG Galway in 1983 and holds an ACMA qualification.
Chief Operating Officer at Abbey Capital
Peter Carney is the Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) of Abbey Capital Limited (“Abbey Capital”) overseeing all operational aspects of the business. He is also Head of Operational Due Diligence and is a member of the Executive Management, Risk and Investment Committees.
Peter joined Abbey Capital in 2003 and prior to taking the role of COO, Peter held the role of Chief Financial Officer at Abbey Capital for 13 years overseeing all Audit, Financial and Tax areas of the Abbey Capital group of companies and its funds. Peter qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG and prior to joining Abbey Capital gained hedge fund industry experience in both Dublin and the Cayman Islands.
Peter completed an Executive Leadership program at Stanford Graduate School of Business. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Galway and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Director of Research at Abbey Capital
As Director of Research, John oversees Abbey Capital’s investment process, including manager analysis and due diligence, quantitative research, portfolio construction, market analysis and liquidity management. As a member of the investment committee, John participates in all aspects of Abbey Capital’s investment activities.
John joined Abbey Capital in 2009 following completion of a M.Sc. in Financial Economics from University College Cork (“UCC”) School of Economics. He has a B.Sc. in Finance from UCC and is a qualified Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (“CAIA”). John’s academic research focused on the application of regression analysis and the bootstrapping algorithm to fund performance and his work has been published in the Journal of Wealth Management.
Head of Research
As Head of Research, Kevin’s responsibilities include oversight of ongoing manager analysis and due diligence, management of the Research Analysts and Markets teams, and contributing to the setting of the research agenda for the company. As a member of the investment committee, Kevin participates in all aspects of Abbey Capital’s investment process, portfolio construction and manager appraisal activities.
Prior to joining Abbey Capital in August 2013, Kevin worked as a Market Risk Analyst with Irish Bank Resolution Corporation (“IBRC”). Kevin Joined IBRC in May 2010, where he was primarily responsible for analysis, management and reporting of risk across the bank’s derivative trading books. Prior to this, Kevin worked with Geneva Trading from 2008, where he traded a range of futures markets across the energy sector.
Kevin holds a Bachelor of Business and Legal Studies from University College Dublin and a M.Sc. in Finance and Capital Markets from Dublin City University.
