Founder and Chief Investment Officer at Abbey Capital
Prior to founding Abbey Capital, Tony was a co-founder of Allied Irish Capital Management (AICM), a Dublin-based CTA, in conjunction with Allied Irish Banks.
He helped to grow AICM to become one of the largest European CTAs, with funds under management growing from an initial $50 million to in excess of $1.4 billion.
Tony has more than 25 years’ investment experience in the managed futures industry. He is recognized and acknowledged as a leader in the industry globally. He is a regular guest speaker at alternative investment industry conferences.
Tony graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Masters in Business Studies with Finance from University College Dublin, Ireland.
Chief Executive Officer at Abbey Capital
Prior to joining Abbey Capital, Mick was a Director at AICM from 1998 to 2002. While at AICM, he worked in a trading capacity and also on product research and risk management. Previously, Mick was the Head of FX and European Interest Rate Trading at Bank of Ireland in Dublin from 1997 to 1998. Prior to that, Mick was Treasurer and EVP at Bank of Ireland’s New York Branch, where he ran the trading and sales operation from 1994 to 1997. In 1992, he became Head of Interest Rate trading at the bank. Mick initially joined the Treasury Division of Bank of Ireland in 1984 where he traded foreign exchange and interest rate markets on a proprietary basis.
Mick graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Commerce from University College Galway and holds an ACMA qualification.
Chief Operating Officer at Abbey Capital
Peter Carney is the Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) of Abbey Capital Limited (“Abbey Capital”) overseeing all operational aspects of the business. He is also Head of Operational Due Diligence and is a member of the Executive Management, Risk and Investment Committees.
Peter joined Abbey Capital in 2003 and prior to taking the role of COO, Peter held the role of Chief Financial Officer at Abbey Capital for 13 years overseeing all Audit, Financial and Tax areas of the Abbey Capital group of companies and its funds. Peter qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG and prior to joining Abbey Capital gained hedge fund industry experience in both Dublin and the Cayman Islands.
Peter completed an Executive Leadership program at Stanford Graduate School of Business. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Galway and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Global Head of Sales
In his role, Paraic is responsible for leading and further developing a global distribution team, with focus on sales, strategic marketing and client service. Paraic is part of the executive management committee of Abbey Capital.
Before joining Abbey Capital in 2018, Paraic was Global Head of Sales & Relationship Management at BNP Paribas Securities Services. Previously, he held leadership and sales positions at SS&C and Integral Development Corporation, both providers of sophisticated software and services to financial intermediaries and asset managers. He started his career with Allied Irish Banks and was a discretionary currency trader in London and New York for 10 years, finishing as Co-Head of the New York sales and trading division.
Paraic is a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, with a BA in Management Science and Industrial Systems Studies.
Head of Client Services at Abbey Capital
Sandra is responsible for managing the Client Services department in Abbey Capital. The Dublin based team are the primary point of contact for client requests and queries. Sandra is responsible for ensuring Abbey Capital’s clients continually receive the highest level of service.
Prior to joining Abbey Capital in 2009, Sandra was a project manager for SDL International where she was responsible for managing projects across global teams for a number of US, European and Asian clients.
Sandra holds a B.Bs in International Business & Japanese from Dublin City University. Sandra is a fluent Japanese speaker.
Head of Operations at Abbey Capital
Amy joined the Abbey Capital team in 2007 and was part of the Business Development and Marketing teams. In 2011 she was appointed Communications Officer and in 2014 she became Client Service Manager for Asia and North America. In 2016 Amy moved to the Operations department and in 2018 was appointed Head of Operations.
As Head of Operations Amy is responsible for managing broker relationships, on-boarding managers to Abbey Capital’s suite of multi-manager products and assisting the day-to-day running of the company.
Prior to joining in 2007 Amy completed a B.Sc. in Business and Management from Dublin Institute of Technology (“DIT”). In 2010 she also completed a M.Sc. Marketing from DIT.
Managing Director & Head of Abbey Capital (US) LLC
Helen has over 20 years of financial markets experience with 10 years spent in trading roles and the more recent 10 years in business development for systematic trading strategies.
Helen started her financial career in 1999 with ABN Amro in Ireland trading Irish Equities before moving to London in 2002 to be a market maker in European Mid Cap stocks and a year later became a Sales Trader for Hedge Funds. Helen returned to Dublin in 2005 and headed up Anglo Irish Bank’s Centralised Dealing Desk until 2006 when she moved to the United States of America. Helen joined Chilton Investment Management where she was responsible for the group’s European Equity Trading until January 2008 when she left to commence her career with Abbey Capital (US) LLC.
From 2008 Helen built and led the Abbey Capital (US) LLC business until leaving at the end of 2017 to join Kepos Capital. Helen worked in a business development capacity for Kepos from January 2018 to January 2019 until she resigned to re-join Abbey Capital and lead our business development and client servicing business in North America.
Helen is a director of the Abbey Capital (US) LLC board.
Helen graduated from University College Dublin with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and Dublin City University with a Certificate in Investment Management.
Managing Director at Abbey Capital
In his role, Alan oversees market and portfolio analysis and research thought pieces. As a voting member of the investment committee Alan participates in all aspects of Abbey Capital’s manager appraisal activities.
Before joining Abbey Capital in 2012, Alan was Investment Director with Ulster Bank Wealth, where he was responsible for investment strategy and asset allocation. Prior to that, he was Investment Strategist at Allied Irish Capital Management. Alan started his career at Bank of America, London, as a technical analyst and proprietary trader in the FX division. He subsequently worked with Bank of America in Hong Kong and Singapore as Senior Research Analyst in FX, before joining BNP Paribas as a fixed income strategist in Emerging Markets in London.
Alan is a CFA charterholder with a BA in Economics from Trinity College Dublin, an MSc in Investment Management from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and an MBA from University College Dublin.
Chief Technology Officer at Abbey Capital
Derek leads Abbey Capital’s technology group and is responsible for all aspects of the development, operation and management of our systems and infrastructure. Derek is also a member of the Operational Due Diligence team.
Derek joined Abbey Capital in March 2011 from Tradefacilitate Ltd., an EU-validated provider of paper-free import export solutions, where he was CTO and responsible for product strategy, development and delivery processes, and for making their software-as-a-service offering market-ready. Prior to this, Derek spent four years at Daiwa Securities Global Asset Services in Dublin as Head of Technology where he was responsible for all aspects of the company’s technology operation including software, infrastructure and business continuity management. Derek held a variety of software development leadership roles prior to this in the digital imaging, eLearning and performance management industries.
Derek holds a B.Sc. in Applied Computing from Waterford Institute of Technology and an MBA from the Smurfit Business School at UCD, specialising in Marketing and HR.
Chief Compliance Officer at Abbey Capital
Louise Harris is the Chief Compliance Officer at Abbey Capital Limited.
Louise reports directly to Abbey Capital’s Board of Directors and heads the Compliance unit. Louise is responsible for advising Abbey Capital on all regulatory matters and ensuring that Abbey Capital conducts its business in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Louise joined Abbey Capital in 2017 from an independent third party UCITS and alternative investment fund management company, where she held the position of Head of Legal & Compliance of the Irish branch.
Louise initially joined Abbey Capital in 2009. Between 2009 and 2017, Louise held various legal and compliance positions in Abbey Capital, including Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel. Louise joined Abbey Capital in 2009 from Aviva’s offshore investment business, Norwich Union International, where she held the position of Legal Manager for two years. Prior to this, Louise practiced as a barrister for five years, working mainly in the areas of contract and commercial law.
Louise graduated with a Master of Laws degree from Trinity College Dublin in 2000 and with a Barrister-at-Law degree from the King’s Inns in Ireland in 2002. Louise was called to the Bar of Ireland in 2002.
Managing Director at Abbey Capital
As Managing Director Aodhagán is responsible for Business Development and Sales for Abbey Capital. He acts as primary liaison for institutional clients, across Europe, North America and the Middle East.
Before joining Abbey Capital in 2006, Aodhagán was a Senior Project Manager for Datalex plc., where Aodhagán managed multi-million dollar projects for major international blue-chip airline clients. From 1998 to 2001, Aodhagán worked as a product specialist and consultant with Misys, focusing on the trade finance and retail banking sectors.
Aodhagán recently completed a Strategic Marketing Management programme at Stanford Graduate School of Business. He holds a Master of Business Studies (M.I.S.) and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Dublin.
Chief Financial Officer at Abbey Capital
David McInerney is the Chief Financial Officer of Abbey Capital Limited.
David oversees all Audit, Financial and Tax areas of Abbey Capital and its funds. David is also a member of the Compliance and Credit Committees as well as being a member of the Operational Due diligence team. Prior to joining Abbey Capital in 2014, David was a senior manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Dublin. David worked with an extensive range of alternative investment funds promoted by European, US and Asian investment managers. David has also gained international alternatives experience working at PricewaterhouseCoopers, New York.
David holds a BSc Finance degree from University College Cork and a Masters of Accounting from the UCD Michael Smurfit Business School. David is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.
Chief Risk Officer
Patrick Ryan is Chief Risk Officer for Abbey Capital . In his role Patrick is responsible for ensuring an enterprise-wide culture of risk management, the identification and resolution of risks and building the company’s capability to monitor, anticipate and respond to risks.
Before joining Abbey Capital in 2018, Patrick was Chief Risk Officer with Susquehanna International Securities Limited, where he was responsible for enterprise wide risk management. Prior to joining Susquehanna in 2013, he worked as a Risk Manager with TD Securities. Patrick started his career with Bear Stearns before initially joining TD Securities as an Equity Derivatives Analyst in 2006.
Patrick is a CFA Charterholder and a Certified FRM. He is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin with a degree in Business Studies and French.
Head of Research at Abbey Capital
John’s responsibilities include manager analysis and due diligence, on-going fundamental research, management of the analyst team and setting the research agenda for the company. As a voting member of the investment committee, John participates in all aspects of Abbey Capital’s manager appraisal activities.
John joined Abbey Capital in 2009 following completion of a M.Sc. in Financial Economics from the University College Cork (“UCC”) School of Economics. He also holds a B.Sc. in Finance from UCC in addition to holding the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (“CAIA”) qualification. John’s academic research focused on the application of regression analysis and the bootstrapping algorithm to fund performance and his work has been published in the Journal of Wealth Management.
